Ostrich

I will be hunting Africa in Sept. I plan on taking a couple of ostrich to mount for display. Any suggestions on forms? Anyone have experience in using the ostich system with cast legs? Also should I T skin it and have them salt dry it just like an animal hide to transport it back to me in USA so I can send it of to get tanned? Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Jim

my advice

Would be to go spend your money on two local birds in the USA. By the time they dry these greasy feather dusters, you probabaly wont get the size back they should have been, and will be sorry you even statrted the project.Since the ostrich farming collapse, it would be cheaper proposition than buying and importing skins from Africa.Save your money for something you cannot get in the USA

I think Stephan Savides did an article a few years ago on how to prepare African Bird skins. If you can't locate the article, Ive found Stephan very easy to talk to over the phone.

Thanks Hugh, I will go through my magazines again and try to find Stephans phone number and give him a call. I just want to make sure I get every thing done correctly on the african side to asure the ostrich skins come back ok. I plan on sending them out to get tanned and then tackle the challenge of mounting them, Jim
