Looking for some input. First part, while doing upland game birds should you inject caluk or silicone all over the breast and back for better feather set.
Second part what's better latex caulk or silicone. Cally Morris recommends silicone because you can lightly heat and it sets faster, but everyone else talks only about latex caulking.

I'd say most of us use silicone because of its setting quality, latex takes a lot of time to dry and could cause those feather butts to shift a lot on your mount if distrubed in anyway..
You can get paid in 3 days with silicone, or 2 or 3 weeks later with latex caulk.
I have used both but prefer the time caulking gives me to adjust things. If I had mounted as many turkeys as Cally, I wouldn't worry about feather placement. He can probably do them in his sleep. I sure can't.
On silicone, I made the huge mistake of getting silicone and borax mixed together inside the wings of a specklebelly---HUGE PROBLEM! The borax makes the silicone kick instantly. I almost ruined a customers bird by having to dig the clumps out and replace it with caulk.
I use siliconized latex caulk on my birds. Its not as slow as regular caulk but not as fast as silicone. The only time I use 100% silicone in on hanging dead mounts down the back of the bird. If you use silicone make sure you have the feathers where you want them, cause if you don't you're stuck. It sets up fast. Hope this helps.
Thank you all for your input it is greatly appreicated and will be put into good use. Thank you again.
when you say, " be ready because it's fast"... How much time do you have before silicone sets ? I use caulking with silicone, and it can take days or longer. How fast is 100% silicone?
squirt a little on your table and watch it. It doesn't take too long but will alow you some time to play with.
