I have already searched archives and all reference material I cant find any gadwall that looks like the one I got. The duck I have in my freezer has a all black bill is this normal for a gaddy. I never hunted gadwall, and I dont want to give back the wrong colored bill to my customer any help thanks. ---Brian

Some Gadwall have all black billsand some have varying amounts of orange on them usually around the border of the upper mandible.

is that true when it's in full color? I don't think I've ever seen orange on a late winter bird.

Would you say Black, or a really dark gray like Payne's Gray?

Black, not Payne's Gray, and the only Drakes I've seen with orange are immature first year birds, and that's actuall quite common especially in early season.
