Hello,
I recently got back a canda goose that i mounted 2 and a half years ago. The feathers on the lower legs, the butt, and the thieghs on one side of the bird have decentigrated into dust. If anybody can give me tips on what cause this problem please leave a responce, Ill be looking forward to them.
Thanks a bunch,
Gary

Your goose has an infestation of Dermestid(sp) Beetles(Dust Beetles-Carpet Beetles). They eat anything and everything. You could put the goose in a large plastic bag and spray with a bug bomb of some sort and seal the bag. The problem is that they will eventually come back and your goose will be totally gone. It happens to the best of us. Many years ago a friend gave me some birds that had been mounted by the famous Joe Kish. He did a beautiful job mounting the birds but they were literally falling apart from Dermested(sp) Beetles. They leave tell tale signs-skins that look like little grains of rice.
Thank you for the info.
