I was wondering how long does it take for a skinned bird to thaw. I skinned it the other night and put it back into the freezer. How long does it usually take?

would take it out before you go home, and it should be thawed by morning. whole birds will take twice as long.

Thawing time for a skinned bird is relative to the size of the bird, whether you cased the wings or not and whether you skinned out the head. In some cases, if you degreased the bird it can reduce the thawing time. It also depends on the thawing method you use - if you leave it on the counter, it will take longer than if you immerse it water. A skinned and degreased mallard sized bird with wings cased and skull removed will thaw in approx 30 min in luke warm water. A goose sized bird skinned the same way, may take 2 hours depending on the water temp - warmer thaws faster. A quali sized bird will thaw in less than 30 min. A pheasant sized bird will thaw about the same as a mallard, again depending on the temp of the water. If you leave a bird on the counter remember to wrap the feet with wet paper towels as well as the head. It is not a good idea to leave a wet bird in a plastic bag for extensive periods of time as it will cause feather slippage particularly around the eyes. Good luck
Josh,
I do that a lot but I wrap the skin in a wet rag and place it in a refrigerator that I have in the shop overnight to be mounted the next day. I've never had a problem. Good luck.
