Silver Phase Gobbler

Submitted by Jeff McDaniel on 8/22/06 at 4:41 PM. ( jmcdaniel@pactiv.com ) 206.198.5.32

My son harvested a Silver Phase Gobbler according to the IL. DNR biologist. Some have called it smoke and piebald while others do call it a silver.

Can anyone tell me how rare these are ? Also , ... the DNR Bio guy stated it usually happen to the hen , ... and this would make my son's gobbler even more odd ?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

THere is a difference between silver and pied. Pied will have white patches, silver would be more like a narragansett.
Got a picture?

I can't say what the stats are, but I would call it rare (i've seen very few). and if you're asking "should I mount it?" - I'd say yes! just do research and find a talented bird guy (and don't limit yourselve on location). there's plenty of talent all over the US, and I'd say everyone has worked with customers on shipping. and congratulations. brian

I'm a bird taxidermist that specializes specifically on turkeys. I've seen and mounted a few red phase and a few completely white and albino turkeys. But, I have never seen, in person, a silver phase or piebald. It's very rare, and you really should make sure you get it mounted by someone that specializes in birds. Of course, I'd be glad to do it, but there are also some extraordinary bird taxidermists closer to you geographically than myself. Best of luck to you.
