caulking

I have not mounted waterfowl for 25 years. Just started again and have found artificial heads and necks a great advancement.

I have read about guys using caulk like a hide paste and that idea really interests me. Can anybody give me a quick rundown on the proper procedure? Bryan

when sewing up the bird squirt caulk, sew caulk. then caulk at tail quills, and around head.

another must do location is in the wings, load them up when you are wiring your wings.

While caulk is valuable in certain instances, it is not a fix all and does not replace the basics of proper anatomy, proper manikin size and shape and proper location of the legs and wings. Too much caulk can create challenges and in many situations cause unsightly lumps. One also has to be careful about sewing every hole or the caulk can and usually does "leak" out when one is manipulating it under the skin. Much of what we do is personal preference. Most of the techniques take a little practice to get right and then a few tests to see if it is what is desired. Like anything else there is always more than one way to do things. I prefer to use caulk carefully and conservatively. Good Luck

Thanks
