Alternative to ear slits

Submitted by Jim Bianchi on 3/21/01. ( )

I have a deer which had natural splits on it's ear edges. They ran about 1/2" in and about 1/8" inch wide.

When I turned the ear, I opened up the slit edges and later slipped the earliner in as normal. So now I'm at the point where the deer is mounted and the pink earliner is showing where the ear slit was.

I had intended on cutting out the pink liner portion to bring back the natural tears.. But they seem to have gotten bigger and there are a few of them. So do you think I could brush paint (no air) those liner areas without it showing? Are there other ways to mend these?

See how your other mount had them, those were carded so they wouldnt get larger through shrinkage. You can either relax this new one, and start over, or try adding paint and epoxy to texture it in again, even pulling a few stray hairs and putting them in its place.

Thanks for the info Bill. I'll give it a shot.
