remounting antlers with new cape

Submitted by Andy on 6/8/01. ( ) 205.188.209.41

i recently lost a mount to a fire..but the antlers are in tact and undameged..this was my biggest deer to date and would really like to have it remounted..my question is can a taxidermist make it look like the original deer from a picture of the deer and from the pics of the first mount..my main concerns are the eyes, ear shape, and nose+mouth features..i have plenty of pics of the buck so any input to this subject by experianced taxidermists would be great..thankyou....

Andy,
Sorry about your fire. The good news is that a quality taxidermist can remount the deer close to the original. If you supply pictures, he should be able to locate a cape that closely matches it. However, all deer are a little different, the same as we are. I recommend finding a reputable taxidermist in your area and seeing what he can do. Also, don't look for the cheapest remount. People who are skilled enough to do this the way you want will charge what it is worth. Good luck.

Any reputable taxidermist should be able to produce a real nice mount for you. Remounts, or mounting capes with antlers from other bucks is a pretty common practice in this business.
