the chemical composition of the one hr.tan is unknown to me however when i used it on a properly thinned bison cape i had great results i have never used it on any thing else but if it works on bison it should work on deer or small mammals
Just because something seems to work and nothing hasn't "happened" yet does not make it a tan. I am with George, there is NO WAY you will get the chemical reaction and fiber transition of a proper tan in one hour. If you could don't you think tanneries would have went to it? I think this stuff should be called liquad DP. Will it work to keep hair from falling off a mount? Yes, but you could also air dry it and it would do the same thing. If you want a true tan you will need to salt, dry, rehydrate, acid, shave, tan bath, oil. No wonder there are so many posts about hair falling off here, slippage there, etc...

I use DP, 1lb dissolved in 5 gals of cold water. I let it soak for 30 min. Drip dry for about 15 min. Towel dry then mount. I have a White tail hanging on my wall 10 yrs old, no hair slipping, no odor. I damp sponge and brush from time to time, the mount looks great.
I can remember way back when pickling skins and just mounting them! No oil , forget neutralizing and shaving was somthing you did in the morning before work!
what I mean here is Dan if it works for you GREAT, But understand that if you start to have problems latter on there are other ways that "may work" alot better.
I still have a article witten by Joe Coombs,
describing his method using Liquid Tan. He would at the time let the skins dry completly
once the cream was applied. They would be air dried fr 3 or 4 days and the rehydrated and mounted ...that was his way(at the time).
Now adays you can get wet tanned capes that where never dried and thats what some use, with great results I might add.
So can you apply a liq. tan and mount after one hour? Sure... Is there maybe a better way? Sure... when you are ready just ask. In the mean time have fun!
