yes you can...

fix this. First of all, sometimes you can sew the hide together from the end of brisket to make it longer. If this is not possible then you can cut the form to make it shorter. You will need to bondo a backboard onto the form after you cut it. Some tips are to cut it straight so you dont alter the pose of the form and make sure you cut enough off. Remember that you are going to add 3/4" length back to the form when you bondo the backboard onto the form. Hope this helps

one more thing,

sometimes you can patch bald spots. If you have a spare brisket, cut enough to cover the spot and either sew it on or patch it after the deer dries. Make sure you have the edges of the hide pinned well enough so the hide wont curl up on you. It may take some practice but it is verry possible to patch bald spots to look as if nothing was ever wrong. Remember improvise, adapt and overcome! This is all part of being a taxidermist.

Taxi the skin

If you're overlapping in the back, pull some of that skin over the shoulders. You should usually do this anyway. That should give you more brisket to work with.

Try this

I have done this twice now with very good response from the customers. I used cut offs to patch the area that is missing.( as small as yours is, you may just fill it in with sculp all). After drying, I filled the seems with sculp all and blended and painted. Now for hidding the mess....I placed a "limb" (a piece of driftwood) over the patch hidding as much as posiible and attached it to the form. I then used some nice silk or plastic vine and wrapped it around the limb. Use the leaves to hide what ever the limb does not.
I patched a hog the same way once, but instead of a limb and vine, I mad some mud, with dirt and white glue and covered the mess, with a bigger mess... I even added the mud to his nose and face and had some dripping off his whiskers and hair.
I did talk to the customer about the problem and solution so they did not have a surprise when they picked the mounts up!
I had a friend of one guy that had a WT deer done that way, ask if I could do his that way....His did not need it to hide anything, but he liked the look.
Good luck and have some fun....and dont forget to charge them for it!
