Hi all, after some advice please, i've never had anything to do with taxidermy or mounting of deer heads, and would like to know where i can get information via the net which will give me a basic step by step guide to the methods and materials needed to mount a small deer head. I am in the UK and chanced across this forum during a search for information. If anyone can help I would be grateful. I am off on my first ever stalking trip this week, and while I can get the skull mounted with no problems, I wondered what would be involved if I wanted to mount it as a lifelike head. but I fear you can't get there from here. Mounting a deer entails more than any website could offer and since it is done in stages, you need to be totally familiar with each stage before you start. My recommendation is to order the VHS tapes from WASCO or the books. THEN ask questions concerning those things that puzzle you in those individual steps instead of the whole process. We might be able to help you better in that sense.
Thanks for the reply George, sound advice, I was not too clear in my post though sorry, I dont have any intention of leaping straight in with the mounting of a head as soon as i get one ! a sure recipe for disaster. Although having my first go at stalking this week, I wont be trying my hand at mounting the head of anything I bag. I just wondered what resources may be at hand on the web to help me sort out what I need to know. I have access to other heads if I need them to practice on before I try anything, just gathering what info I can at the moment to see whats involved and what resources/equipment etc are needed.

I agree with george you need a video and books but make sure you check out the archives section on this site you will find more than you can remember. Also TaxidermyReference.com has alot of information. good luck Lloyd
