IS There something new out for rebulding the nose dimbles

Submitted by Rob C. on 5/21/02. ( ) 32.100.198.145

I would like to know if there is a new product out ther to rebuild the nose dimbles. I am interest in finding any new product to take the place of modge. This does work, but I usually put two to three coats on the make them come alive more. Is there something out there that is thicker or has more density that you only have to put it on once. thanks from a new guy.

Ultra seal

This response submitted by Grouseman on 5/21/02. ( jabratt@citlink.net ) 170.215.11.106

I have been using this for years. I recently tried the modge podge and didn't like it. Like you say it is too runny! WASCO has the ultra seal. just get a small container to see if it is what you are looking for. If not you also have a good fin glue. You could also try the nose tool out there for use with epoxi, But I can not comment on that Cause every nose is different and I do them accordingly.
Hope this helps.

Roller

I use the roller tool. First I apply epoxie sculp over the entire nose pad (very thin) Then take my roller and go over the whole pad. What a big difference.

Get Breakthrough Issues 59 & 63

In the first issue, Bill Yox describes the Modge Podge method and in the second Ben Mears describes taking a jewelers screwdriver and accenting each dimple as it dries to give it the natural look. As for the Dan-D-Noser, that's been pretty well described in the archives and it ain't pretty. LOL

Eye fluid

from Joe Coombs Classic. I have been using it on my competition mounts. Since it is a clear gel like substance it works great. I like it better than the modge podge since I can shape it better to the individual nodule. Plus after it dries it keeps it wet look. Personally I get more natural looking nodules out of it than I ever got out of modge podge.

Thanks, to all

Yes , I do get all the Breakthrough mag since I've started about 10 years ago. I've read the articles in them more than once. I was looking for input on what people like. I was interested in what ya'all would say about the dandy nose tool. I felt it would make all the deer nose's look the same, and I do like to make my nose's like the deer had. I will try some of the mentioned methods above. Thanks to all. Don't ask why I put a new guy, Just finally got all my stuff past for my liscence. I work a full time job about 50 hrs a week, and then work for a logger and farmer on the weekends. So, I can't really put as much time as I should. But that's all going to stop now. I just finished my first mount for a customer and I think I'll try what amy did and see what you proffesional think. Thanks and keep a smile on. Rob C.

If the results are good...

why get in a hurry? I use the modge podge, go over all the "bumps" first time around, come back in a couple hours and repeat on the lower half of the nose to make them bigger and avoid the total raspberry look. After a couple hours drying time, I give the first of two over coast covering the entire bare skin of the nose. By the second coat, the nodules transition well into one another and look very natural. It works for me and produces the results I want.

Mod Podge

Have you tried using it in a syringe? You can get into each indvidual "cell" on the nose pad easily with this method. You don't always want those dimples too raised anyway. One coat will do it this way. Stippling the nose is NOT a 5 minute process like LH made apparent.

Dandy Noser makes a good weight in the bottom of that new trash bag to line the trash basket. Unless you are going for results of a 2 minute fake job. Remember how Rudolph got the ribbing.

Let that Modge Podge get old....

Eventually with use the stuff in the jar will thicken up to the right consistancy for 1 dip.

Use your new stuff to paint on a final coat and smooth out.

no more mode-podge

This response submitted by David on 5/24/02. ( skinner1@bayouweb.net ) 12.40.25.12

Rob; I've used mode-podge for years, until a coleague of mine showed me a new method, with more realistic results. Before You tuck you lips and nose pads, add a small amount of critter clay to the nose area. Make sure the nose pad is fleshed real thin. Tuck lips and nose pad as usual and finish mounting. On your next day workover, press the dimples back in the nose. Use a modeling tool or a small screwdriver. Just follow the lines around the dimples. Do this each time you touch up your mount until its dry. Bueatiful nose pad everytime. Looks natural and not overly done, Try it, you'll like the results.
