I know the archives contains tons of info on european skull mounts and I have searched for this answer with no success. When attaching a Whitetail skull to the panel the screws are visible between the panel and the skull. There are two pieces of bone on the rear of the skull that makes a gap.Should these be removed?Recommendations are greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

you can paint the exposed screw threads with white out ( typewriter correction fluid) or what I do is to bend a strong wire into a "U" shape and run it through the small openings under the skull and through two small predrilled holes in your plaque, sinch them up in the back, paint the wire with wite out and your done.
Jim,
I use a Sawz-all and cut the very bottom half of the skull off. Starting just in front of the teeth and extending to the rear of the skull. This will remove those bumps you're referring to and make the skull lay flat against your panel. Do your cutting while there is still meat on the skull, to prevent the bone from fragmenting. This will also aid you in cleaning out the nasal passages. You will need to insert a small piece of wood into the brain cavity and lock it in using bondo. This will give you a sturdy surface for attaching it to the panel. Your skull will lay flush to the panel with no visible screws. Good luck.

There was an article in Breakthrough a couple years back I think. It showed a method for trimming the back of the skull a little. This tips the nose of the skull up and away from the wall a little for a much more natural look. It also leaves a nice flat surface for your panel and the screws go right into a coulpe think parts of the skull. No screws are seen at all with this method. I wish I rememberd what issue it was in.
before cutting anything off a customers skull. I for one would NOT be happy about it and it is totally unnecessary! good day.
Thanks for the tips.By the way Troy, that Breakthrough article is in issue 59,spring 2000.
