Salting racks and antler storage?

Submitted by Amy Ritchie on 09/15/2002. ( Amy@AmysTaxidermy.com ) 24.136.154.164

These are two things I have been thinking about lately. I would like to built a rack to hold antlers. And I would like to make a salting rack for drying deer capes on. Nothing big, since I have a really small shop. Just enough to hold a few capes.

I searched the archives, and found some good instructions, but I'm an idiot when it comes to visualizing things!

If anyone could send me a *picture* of their antler rack and/or salting rack, I would really appreciate it! Thanks!

Amy, a old (or new) wooden clothes drying rack can be used to drape salted capes over. (put a drop cloth under it) A plus for your small space is that it will fold up.

Now for the antler rack. What I have done is suspended a 1" x 4" piece of wood from the ceiling. Just about any size rack will hang nicely. The 1" x 4" fits nicely between the brow tines and rest on the skull plate. Works great for me!

What works for me is I run a 2x4 on the ceiling or a 1x2 and screw the racks to the ceiling. up out of the way and in numbered sequence. For a salting rack check my post on salting.
