Hi everyone!I have 2 questions I hope someone can answer.I recently received some antlers from my dad's house after he passed away.He was a real heavy smoker so the antlers are REAL yellow colored. Can anyone recommend what I could do to them to get them back to there original color? My second question is can anyone tell me what Cecil Baird's website is called?I would really love to check it out.I want to do some bluegill taxidermy and I'v heard that he has some great pictures of some fish he did. Thanks!

Antlers are "stained" as soon as they come out of velvet because they porous. "New" antlers get blood to start with and then it's usually pine pitch and dirt until after the rut. As the year ends, many bucks antlers turn pale and even off white due to inattention to them before they are cast off. In your case, the antlers have absorbed the tars of cigarette smoke for years and my guess is that the antlers have absorbed it pretty deeply. Topical washings may get you lucky, but it's doubtful. You can soak them in a degreaser or use drum brake cleaner on them to reduce the effect, but I don't think you'll ever get them "back".
