Staining old antlers

Submitted by mike on 09/16/2002. ( mipauley@vt.edu ) 65.164.92.134

I have some old bleached out deer antlers. I was wondering if it takes some type of special stain to bring them back to thier natural color? These antlers are cracked and probably around 20 years old and are bleach white. Does anyone have any suggestions or helpful hints on what to do..

thanks

mike

Or at least that's the reply I got when I followed the directions on the opening page and typed in "Staining antlers" in the WHAT DO YOU WANT TO KNOW block. Try it.

Try shoe polish, a dark then a lighter color, otherwise Van Dyke's has some paste stain.
