i have a commercially tanned cape - it is very long and narrow - the tannery tells me this is how they normally come back - it is wet tanned - i am not questioning the tannery i just don't know how to get it to stretch enough so that the slack will be taken up from length and "given" back to width - tannery says wet tanned skins do not have to be soaked to relax
help me

Mark you will need to stretch the cape. there are several ways to do this it depends on how the cape is cut. If it is y cut you can either 1. stick your arms in it and twist and pull on the sides or 2. get a atv intertube and stick it in the neck opening then inflate. Not to much air as to tear the skin just enough to strech it. If its cut completely down the back you will have to stretch it from shoulder to shoulder the whole way up the neck. hope this help ya.

it is a full length cut - how do i stretch it
Mark, Just get a grip on it and pull width ways as much as you can. Also you can "stress" the skin on the flesh side using a piece of wood or similar item about 1 1/2"x 1/2" on the end. Use this to pull the cape against and push it some till it loostens up. Hard to describe this process but if you try it you will likly figure out how this puts pressure on a small area at a time and stretches the cape easier than using just your fingers. You can even put a small board in a vise upright and pull the cape across it.Hopefully this makes some sense to you- enjoy, Aaron
