I have purchased a 12 fleshing knife from McKenzie to make my fleshig on capes go faster. Just wanted to know if I was missing something. It does not seem flesh the capes a good as I expected. I salted the cape and it seem to help. Do you salt and let drain overnight before using these kind of blades. Do you sharpen the blade? Just would like to know what some of you have sucess with Thanks.

A fleshing knife just scrapes off red meat. You need a fleshing beam in conjunction with this "device" to work well and you should never salt before the hide is properly fleshed, lips split, ears turned and eyebrows removed. That's why taxidermists who plan on being in business awhile end up with round knives or fleshing wheels to save all that back strain and headaches.
