Game decoys

I have made several for our local game law enforcement people. I use a lazy suzan just below the jaw line so the head swivels at that point with a 1/4" rod extending from the head down through the neck. A piece of rubber fuel line attaches to the rod and connects it to the servo which is mounted on the base near the feet. This keeps the servo out of harms way for the most part. Any shots to the head are easily repaired since the servo is not located in the body.

thanks

DECOY

This response submitted by M GIBSON on 06/16/2003. ( ) 66.138.58.189

Hey Rodney, my neighbor is a warden. In addition to the decoy, they take a 4 ft. length of rebar, weld a peice of thin angle iron on one end(perpendicular).On this angle iron, 2 quarter size reflectors (stick on type)are spaced about 6 inches apart. Then attach a thin (1/8" thk.)peice of aluminum with a screw or something to create a hinge.This aluminum acts as a flap to cover the reflectors. When raised and lowered at night it looks like a deer blinking. This flap is remotely operated using air pressure, or a mechanical device. Anyway this contraption is painted all black, and it allows you to put the decoy anywhere. The deer eyes are positioned on the side of the hwy. getting the poachers attention, when they arrive there they dont see a deer, thinking the deer is out in the field they'll shine the field seeing the decoy. without this setup you almost have to put your decoy in a curve,and seasoned poachers know whats going on when they see that.Good luck.....

Where do you get the hardware for it?

We've re-mounted some for our Conservation dept. On one, the buck head turns and the tail moves, too. We even used the detachable antler pin system on the antlers, so they can switch them easily.

I'd like to find the hardware needed to make the movable parts. (Motors, wiring, etc.) Does anyone know of a supplier for these parts?

THANKS!

Vicki =)

How about checking out the Radio Control Hobby stores.

You will find many different servos available, the transmitters can be costly. Anyway thats where I would check first since they have the experience.

We do have a Radio Shack....

It's not a big store, but maybe they can order them. Or, maybe they can tell me what I'd need and I can find it on the 'net. I've been wanting to animate some mounts for awhile now...one of those projects to do "when I get the time." LOL!
