Missing an eye

I recently received a large whitetail deer that was missing an eye, and the customer wanted me to see if I could still use the cape to mount it with an open eye ( I told him I would let him know after I skinned it out). Well the eye hole is drawn up so much you can barley get a finger in it, and there is scar tissue above the socket. I do not think it is possible to use this cape with an open eye. My belief is that instead of using a different cape, he will want the mount to be done with the eye missing (like it was killed). Just wondering if anyone thinks it would be possible to use an open eye with this cape or how hard it would be to mount it without the eye? Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

he would consider a turn with the missing eye in the inside so it isn't as obvious?

If you have not turned and thinned the bad eye yet, Give it a try. You may very well find that it goes back close to normal. If not. Thin the area well. Then trim an eye opening as close to natural as you can. Mount the cape. Shape the eyelid. and pin well. Tend for a few days. when the mount is dry, sculpt the edge of the lid with epoxy sculpt and add Artificial eye lashes that woman use. You will have to trim them they will be way to long. but will work Nicely. If you have trouble getting them to match the other side. replace them both. I have done this same thing in the past. and the mount came out great.

Thanks for advise

I have done an eye like this. I have only been doing mounts for experience so when it was brought to me I said I would give it a try. What I did is slice the back of the eye to open it up. thinned. when it was mounted and dried iwas very pleased with it. I built up lids to match other side and the owner couldnt believe. Finally something worked right in my learning experience.
