I know this sounds like an elementary question but I'm wondering what some of the different methods you folks use for roughing the form surface. I've sanded my forms and roughed them with a homemade stout rougher. I was just reading the caption under the stout rougher in the new McKenzie catalogue and it says you can use it to taxi skin. How many folks use these.

The ruffer works great on forms and skin positioning. Ruffs up form good and leaves detail on. Takes about 10 minutes to get form ready.
I personally prefer the sandblaster. 10 minutes to do the hole form and there is not a bit of mould release on it anywhere.
Best money I have spent on taxidermy dollar for dollar. $39.95 plus the cheapest abrasive, I use qaurtz sand $2.50 for 100 pounds.
Ten minutes and you are done the form is perfect!
The ruffer is great for moving hides.
If you don't have a sand blaster, the ruffer works fine, and also can be used to help position the hide. Just be careful when using it to position the hide, so you don pull out any hair.
