Trouble with Por-a-Kast

Submitted by Tim Jackson on 10/16/2003. ( timjackson@erath.net ) 63.104.24.93

I am doing a couple of tine repairs on some whitetails. I am using Por-a-Kast from Noonkester for the tines. I am having trouble coloring them? What would be the best method to get them to match or should I use a different sort of kast for tines?
Thanks Tim jackson

Just MY opinion

But I'd never use that medium for antler tine repair or replacement. It's great for casting, but I make my own with Apoxie Sculpt and I cover it with Epo-Grip Antler repair that IS stainable. This combination creates a very natural looking bone and except for the heavy wire armature, the end up matching the original quite well.

Colour matching with por-a-kast can be a real pain - and the more tinting of it you do - the more likely you are to have problems in effective cures. Whatever you end up using - it will likley in the end come down to having to paint the surface - so use whatever paints you feel comfortable with (avoid stains) and just try to match the colour of the antler as best you can =)
