Hello peoples. Long time no post for me. I should get here more often but alas bizness keeps me away. I do have a question though....
I have a customer bring me a nice 170 class Kansas buck that he wants a pedestal mount done on. He wants to use the Indian Chief's head backing offered by Research Mannikins as an attachment to the back of a left turn semi-sneak. My question is....has anyone used this type of backing and does it provide any balance issues with the 42" square pedestal with the oval cut-outs that Van Dykes offers? I am afraid that the Indian head will push the balance point of the manniken out to far causing it to tip. Any suggestions?

I meant to say 42" tall pedestal with the oval cut-outs....
Pretty sure you use a wall mount with that not a pedestal.
I should have read the post better the first time.
It seems all the mounts in their catalog show that backing with a browsing or turn back head to center the weight over the back of the form. A 170 buck, a large bodied I'm sure also, in a semi sneak form, I don't know. Uprite maybe. For some reason I'm picturing a large #7 or an upside down L. It may work but the slightest bump will send nose to earth.
The back of the Indian head is 9 3/4 wide x 13 tall. Those measurements are at the widest and tallest points. I've got a browsing buck on it and it's only a 1 1/2 year old deer with a 17 1/2' neck. I think any deer much larger than this would'nt fit very well.
Sorry, just reread the post, I have the Indian Warrior, not the Chief, the measurements they give are actually a bit larger than they really are. The bottom and back of them have plywood in them so you can anchor them and I'd reccomend it. If you anchor them solidly, balance will not be a problem, and you might consider putting a weight in the bottom of the pedestal if it does want to tip over, but like I said, I've got a browsing buck, not a semi-sneak.
Good Luck and let us know how it turns out.
