Hello:
Do you guy's and gal's that mount whitetails do so with a very wet skin or a somewhat dry skin? What are the pro's and con's of each method? Thank you one and all for your time.

Dry hair

But the flesh side is on the damp side. I hate getting wet while I'm working on anything. I place my hides in the dryer (SET ON COOL) with a bunch of old towels in and tumble for about 15 minutes. Take it out and do the prep work and mount.

I keep mine wet

I use rubber gloves when I'm mounting the deer and to insure that they don't pull the hair our unnecessarily, I keep a spray bottle of water handy. As I work the neck and brisket, I mist it with water to insure the gloves don't "stick" to the hair. Just me I guess.

I have done both ways

I have done it wet like George mentioned and also the way Frank mentioned. Either way works as long as you get your hair patterns in the correct position. It is just whatever way you want to do it.

Dry

I tumble my capes. The hair is dry, but the flesh side is still a little damp. BP
