Need easy hair-off tanning kit

My son got his first deer during youth season this year and wants to make a buckskin gun case. Which of the tanning kits are easy to use with a reasonable chance of getting some decent bucksin?

I see Rittel's EZ600 Leather-Making Kit on the WASCO site and it says the only other thing I'll need is salt to dehair and tan - no problem. Are there any special tools that will make what ever scraping, etc. that's needed easier?
