damaged ears

I do a dozen deer or so a year, I've had a reoccuring problem with a particular tannery in California, I won't name out of professional courtesy. I have had trouble in the past with the tannery damaging ears, and I put some of the blame on me for tearing some of them in my haste while turning them. I modified my technique and took great care this year not to rip or tear the edges. I sent them 5 capes to be wet tanned, none I can recall had ear damage when I shipped them out, and when they came back, 8 of the 10 ears had rips, some small, some big. I've about had it with them. I like their tan and all, and they come back in 30 days or so, but I might ship elsewhere and pay the extra for a quick turn around. I would think in wet tanning, that wouldn't be as much of a problem. Anybody had a similar experience?

I don't know where you live, but you might want to try Modern Fur Dressing in Michigan. Roger Smith does a great job with his tanning. I have delt with him for 30 years and have no problems with anything ever. Prices are good, service is very good, turnaround time is great, give them a try. Call him at 1 517 589 5575

Hadn't had a blown out ear in 3 years since switching to Quality. They also do around 30 days on a wet tan.
