to all PA taxidermist,
i had a couple of guys call me about bringing in deer with what they call farm tags. they said it's legit. they said that because they earn more than 50% of their income from farming they don't have to buy hunting liscense. anyone else heard of this? i never have before this, but not ruling out the possibility. thanks!

I am not from PA but in Indiana I know they have simular tags. I would contact your Game and Fish to make sure.

Now why would you say something as dumb as that. Even here in Delaware we have landowners with over 120 acres hunting on their property and people over 65 do NOT have to have licenses. Many other states offer the same things. I don't know what PA does, but to give a blanket statement like yours is just uninformed.
Now THERE'S an "armchair expert" George. Why would someone "not from PA" be qualified to quote PA laws? I just checked with the PA Game Commission and anyone who makes "a majority" of their income from farming and "they actually own the land they are hunting on" may hunt without a license. Homemade tags are to be affixed to bagged deer and turkeys.
TRT--- the deer are legit as far as your concerned! Case closed (as I walk away shaking my head).
I just reread the "Not in Pa" post again and realized the individual might be from PA and was just stating that "not in PA" could an individual hunt without a license. My mistake--however my response is the same.

It's becoming a log for you to bear. MY remarks were in response to countering the first post that told him to "contact the DNR". If Mr. Not had known that for a fact, then you'd expect him to provide some credential that he, too, wasn't just pulling it out of his rectum. As you've already found out, that's exactly what he was doing. I hate to bust your bubble, but as a certified Hunter Safety Instructor, we get all the game laws from adjoining states. I DID know what PA requires and doesn't require, but as I'm NOT a resident of the Keystone State, it would be inappropriate for me to relay information that I didn't have first hand knowledge of. Now, I do hope you have more than a lump of coal in your stocking Christmas morning.
Reread my two posts George! My comment was TO you not about you. It was about what I percieved to be a person "not from PA" making comments about PA laws. Your post was dead on and my post supported yours with the facts.

Actually, landowners with substantial land which permit hunting, even get "EXTRA" doe tags that they can hand out to hunters to help keep the damage done. I don't know all the specifics, but they may even be able to hunt the late season on the farm land.
