repairing damaged ears

Can anyone share how they deal with a tear in the back skin of a deer. I heard from somewhere to glue silk span across it? While it's wet? thanks.

I use hide shavings

Though it's spelled out in the archives, I use super glue and hide shavings. After all, it says "bonds flesh instantly". Then I use earliners and epoxy to actually complete the ear. Once the epoxy kicks in, the repair won't matter much anyway.

If it's in the back of the ear(hair side)

you should be able to sew it up before preparing your ears. If it is in the inner ear simply invert the ear to the hole and apply super glue around the hole, then place a piece of silk span slightly bigger than the hole over the hole and press on with a modeling tool until the glue has kicked. Good luck!

Dryer Sheet

Try super glueing a small piece of old dryer fabric softener sheet ---It works great!

Now I've got a question

For you guys touting the dryer sheets. Won't the dryer sheet allow the epoxy to "bleed" through the tissue? I don't use them, so I can't answer that one, but it seems that they would let the glue get through.

Silk Span, have I been shorted on the silk span?

Silk span as NO STRENGTH, its tissue paper, not the soft kind but the kind used for balsa airplanes.

As small needle and thread and apiece or shaved skin if you are doing bondo. If you are using earliners, you dont ned to worry the epoxy will glue the hide in place over the ear liner.

I just epoxy

I go ahead and use the adhesive on the earliner, slide into place and pull the torn area together and let the epoxy set up.

Epo-Grip
