Does anyone know what the G refers to when it comes to antlers? What does the G refer to in G1's G2's etc.

Point Designation

It designates the points; first point(brow tine) is G1. Second tine is G2 and so on. Circumferances are designated by H1(between burr and brow tine. H2 is between the brow tine and the next tine.

The G's are the antler points. On a whitetail, the eyeguard is G1,the next one up is G2, next is G3, and so on. Do a search on the internet for Boone and Crockett, and you can learn how to score racks. Customers like to know.

I know what they are!

I know what G1's G2's are but what does the G stand for?

Good question

I've often wondered that too. It would almost seem to make more sense to have the measurements as P1, P2 P3 etc for Point 1, Point 2... and circumferances as C1 C2 etc. Why did they chose G and H as the letters to use in those measurements?

Score Sheet Will Explain It

This response submitted by Old Fart on 12/29/2003. ( ) 64.122.57.121

The score sheet is as follows;
A Number of points
B Tip to tip spread
C Greatest spread
D Inside spread
E Total length of all abnormal points
F Length of main beam
G-1 Length of first point, etc
H-1 Circumference, etc

Thus the explaination, "Alphabetical order". "G" in itself means nothing!

Awesome!

Thanks Old Fart =)

Another Note

Although A,B,and C are on the score sheet, they are not used in the scoring of whitetail deer. With bear, A and B are the only measurements used. Letters are specific for each species to be scored and you really need to invest in the current B&C book to at least have the reference available when you need it.
