First honest whitetail entries

Here is a question for those of you who have competed for the F.H.W. award. This is my first year competing in the open division at my state show. I have decided to try for this first honest category. My questions are>>>

How much can I alter the form? ie, use a McKenzie change out head?

How will the judging be different than in the other categories?

I am a little worried about entering my deer in this category knowing that all of the "big boys" will be there too. But, I am sure I will learn a lot. I am just wanting to know how much I can change this form up and what will catch the judge's eye. Thanks in advance for any tips!

Keep the FHW head on it, or they wont hand you the 500 dollars. You can alter them for size and pose. Ive seen it done at plenty of shows. Just dont use a competitors head on it...ouch!

I have the flyer in front of me.

The requirements:
To participate an individual must:
be a state association member in good standing.
Enter the mount in an OPEN/Professional division.
Amateur and novice divisions are not eligible for this award.
To win, the mount must:
Be on a Research Mannikin's First Honest Whitetail Form.
Win the highes scoring blue ribbon in the OPEN/PRofessional division.
Have a Quality picture taken of it to submit to Research for publication.

I know you did not ask for all of this info but I figured it did not hurt to know all of the facts. I would say NO! you cannot use a change out head. Especially from another companies mannikin. You could call Research and ask if a Research change out would be acceptable. Also ask if altering it is allowed. (1-800-826-0654)

for all of the info Bill and Todd. I should call Research and see if they have any specifics on the matter. I was planning on doing quite a bit of altering and replacing parts (like Eppley's replacement nose for starters). Thank you both for your time!

First Honest Whiteail Award Specifications

I am the First Honest Whitetail Award coordinator for Research Mannikins. We have those specifications that Todd mentioned in our latest RM Direct flyer and also on our webite at: www.rmi-online.com if you want more information.

You do need to use a First Honest Whitetail form, (of course) but you can't just cut the mannikin head off and use it on a form sold by someone else. It can be altered as much as you like.

If anyone has any questions about this award and how to compete for it just contact Maranda at Research Mannikins.
phone: 1-800-826-0654 email: maranda@rmi-online.com

Thanks to all the members and associations for the interest in this award. We appreciate you for all your help!
