tumbling question

need to know will it hurt skins to be tumbled in kiln dried pine sawdust or does it have to be hardwood? If so why? thanks

Softwood is almost impossible to remove from down. The hardwood releases.


White maple

Some sawdust other than white maple has tanin in the wood. If the skin is a little too wet when tumbled in these other woods not only will they be hard to comb out but they may also bark tan the skin slightly. This will decrease the stretch that you would normaly have. Pine tar is another problem if you use pine.
