Hi, i realise this may not be the place for this question, but i figured you all are smart people and I need an answer. Are desert eagle's .50 the largest calliber non-custom handguns on the market? Where does a .454 mag fall? Anywho, sorry if im cluttering up your forums, but i figured u all might know. If you know a website that shows a lineup of cartriges and sizes, that would be very helpful also. Thanks in advance

That's about it, Skippy

The BFR chambered in the.50 is there also. Now all this discussion negates those silly hand cannons that shoot rifle cartridges. Remember T/C has one that shoots the 7mm Mag and that goofy looking Encore is nothing but a long barreled pistol with a shoulder stock.

Smith and Wesson

Smith and Wesson has a new double action revolver. It is the Smith and Wesson .500. Very awesome cannon.(I meant to say handgun)

45-70

I have seen a 45-70 revolver, but I don't know the manufacturer. The cylinder looks to be about 3" long. I am not a handgun shooter, other than a 22, so I don't have any idea how the other cases compare to the 45-70 case. The empty 45-70 case is 2.1".

The S&W IS the BFR

And no matter what they say, it's a Big _ _ _ _ Revolver. The .500 is similar in size but is much too powerful for the semiauto of the Desert Eagle.

BIG GUN!

I watched American Rifleman on the Outdoor channel this morning and they were testing a Ruger Super Redhawk in .480 caliber!
That's the biggest pistol I EVER saw!
It got top marks from the revieiwer.

what's so silly about the encore?

i know we're off topic, but i couldn't let a poke at my favorite handgun go unchallenged... a miniature rifle has a lot of benefits in my book, for any kind of hunting where lots of travel is involved. This is in addition to the fact that many of us live in places where we'd otherwise have to use shotguns (YUCK!)for big game with those "tight" 5 inch groups at 100 yards if you're lucky.

500 Smith

The 500 Smith and Wesson Magnum is the largest and most powerful mass production handgun at this time. It delivers more energy at 100 yards than a 454 Casull delivers at the muzzle! The 454 delivers more energy than the 480 Ruger.

Encore

I just think they're DUMB LOOKING. I'm old school, but I love the look of real guns with their long flowing lines and sleekness. The Encore looks like a mixed breed pitbull and that break open action sucks canal water. Try making a follow up shot with that dorky thing and keep your eye on your quarry. To shoot big game with that silly gun at over 200 yards like that stooge Larry Wiesun does is just ego tripping. It's a brush gun at best, and a half-breed pistol at worst. Now you can ridicule that "tight 5 inch group" at 100 yards, (mine shoots a 3 inch group from a rest at 125 yards), but with a 3/4 inch hole and almost 1200 pounds of energy, they don't HAVE to overlap on deer sized targets. (I didn't know you shot hummingbirds with them.) In my Remington 11-87 with a Hasting barrel, I have 2 to 4 IMMEDIATE followup shots that I can make in the time it takes you to break open the action and extract your spent round. But I still have a Browning BAR and an A-bolt in .338 if I need it.

I have a 500

It is by far the baddest gun i've ever shot. It also fits my hand almost exatly the same as my Dan Wesson 44mag. I oculdn't get my fingers around the grip of the Desert Eagle.
P.S. all of the above mentioned wepons are not recomended for small mammals. LOL

You don't know

George,
I am afraid you do not know very much about the T/C encore. I have one and it is the finest rifle I have ever shot. I don't know what show that you saw where someone was shooting 5 in groups at 100 yds, but mine will consistantly shoot 1 in at 100 yds with a variety of ammo - infact with 180 gr Barnes XLC bullets it puts 3 shots into half an inch. I had one built in 300 weatherby mag - It will kill any deer that walks. As far as followup shots - take a good first shot and you don't need follow up shots. I have killed several deer and antelope with it with no problem. As for your problems with the beauty of the encore - thats your opinion, I like it. I don't think you know very much about guns however - 3/4 inch hole? What kind of gun are you shooting (that would be a .75 cal) and 1200 foot pounds of energy - this is about the same power as a .223. I think you may want to - GO OLD SCHOOL - do a little reading.
