Question About The Edge Form

Submitted by Brandon on 01/15/2004. ( taxidermy@tds.net ) 216.170.153.139

I have a deer that I want to mount on one of the edge mannikins put out by WASCO. According to my measurements, and the age of the deer, The one I need is a summer form. Will this difference make my deer goofy looking or anatomically incorrect?
Thanks in advance,
-Brandon

Age of deer has nothing to do with it.

If someone told you age, well they are full of crap.

Each deer, is different and we are too, age has nothing to do with how a deer looks its genetics and food, plain and simple.

What are the measurments?, have you fleshed and tanned the cape? you could have the cape let out way out when properly fleshed and tanned.

No, It Doesn't

matter. If your measurements are correct, it doesn't matter if it's a summer deer or not. The fur might change through out the year, and the swelling of the neck will change if the deer is in rut. But if your measurements match the form you want, it won't be anatomically incorrect. The same will be correct for a doe form too.

Thanks Guys

I didn't think it would be a problem as long as my measurements were the same.My measurements were 7 1/4" x 17 1/2" x 18 1/2" off with the neck measurements off the meat. Also, The cape has been fleshed and is salting now. Thanks for the help.

Age does make a difference, and the summer deer will look different. Size and age is how you determine the frame size of the deer, as best we can in the generic world of taxidermy forms.

Those summer deer forms have very slight swells, and even swelling around the eyes would be different, compared to those measurements if the deer were taken in the fall or winter. I dont know all of the measurements WASCO offers but Im sure theyll have something in that size from a fall deer.

Now Bill, you should know better than that.

What you said is all 5 year old deer are exactly alike.

Thats not correct!

Even is highly pedigreed blood lines in every species done not grant identical builds.

Remember they would have to be cloned and even then there are differences.

Yes the best we can do is put out a generic deer. But age and sex of the specimen may have similarities but they are not identical.

You cannot prove different either.

Horse, cattle, pigs, dogs, cats, sheep, goats, even look at the birds. While animals may look identical to many of us, they are not.

Even look at the difference in whitetail deer subspecies! DUring the peak of rutting, you see same aged deer from the same area and they have different builds!

Sorry Bill but you are wrong on this one.

Im the one who agreed that age DOES make a difference. I also mentioned something to the effect of "the best we can in this generic world of deer forms..." Theres a whole bunch of 17 x 18 deer out there. Thats a big yearling in Texas, a dinky yearling in Ohio and an old rutted up buck in Deleware. Theres almost 15 inches of body length and height differences within those three animals too. Thats why I mentioned frame size with age...
