I've got a set of white tail antlers that are too big at the base for the cape. I'm trying to put a set of 9 point antlers on a 6 point cape. The cape wont't fit around the base. Do I grind around the base or cut the cape? It belongs to a friend of mine. Any suggestions?

If you have a easy way to grind the bone, then try that! Otherwise the cape is the way to go.
If you alter the cape where it goes around the antlers you could mess up the positioning around the eyes.
Your eye holes in the cape would be too far back
You can cut the cape to fit the antler base, it will not mess up your eye location as long as you dont cut the cape on the front side closest to the eyes, cut the sides around to the back.
I have mounted about 30 deer using different capes ( hunters lack of field care knowledge) and had to cut the capes to fit antler base, they all turned out good, just makee sure to get a snug fit and use a good 2 part epoxy and they will be fine.
