have any sort of mothproofing in it? should you do a quick soak in protex after neutralizing? I haven't bought any of the stuff yet, but from what everyone says it sure sounds like it would save me a ton of time and mess.

NO TAN has any "bug proofing" in it. And not to be grouchy or smart, but for someone who hasn't bought any of it, you sure have asked a lot of questions about it. I'll give you the answer they gave me when I questioned if it was really a tan: "READ THE LABEL". Whatever it is, is seems to be working well and with the constant barrage of free advertising it's getting here,(There has been a post on it every day for the last two weeks) it must be the wave of the future.
To get back to your question, DP is the closest thing you'll get to bug "proofing" and the other additives to tanning tend to be bug repellants that are extremely short termed. I use a pre-soak that has some repelling qualities, but it needs to be freshed yearly.
buying a car George, I wanna go around and kick the tires and try out the heated corinthian leather seats before I buy it ! LOL
