A couple pickle questions:
With a safetee acid pickle, does it hurt to leave a deer skin in longer than the recommended three days as long as I keep the pH down?
Also, salt is to be added to this pickle. I have been putting the recommended amounts in there, however, how does putting more or less salt affect the outcome of the pickled hide (or the pickling process itself)?
Just curious on these two things...thanks!

Daniel,
I use Bruce's saftee acid with great results. If you don't already have one, invest in a good salinometer to measure the salt content in the solution. The general instructions says to leave the skins or capes in for a "minimum" of 3 days and that the salinometer should read 40% or "higher". With that in mind my salt content is at least 40% and because of my schedule, I actually go week-end to week-end when pickling and tanning my hides with good results. I know of people who have had to leave their skins in longer for what ever reason and as long as you keep your salt content at or just over 40% and your ph low in that 1 to 1.5 range it should be fine.
