Those that have used Krowtann 2000, What do you think about it. I guess I just dont understand the non salting part of it. Does it have something that drains the fluids and tightens the epidermis?

It works

Bojack, I finished tanning a mink the other day with Krowtan and a 'coon last night. The list of ingredients on the bottle doesn't include bat ears or eye-of-newt but just about everything else. I got it 'cause of the good reports here on the Forum. I must say that I'm not disappointed at all. It was designed for deer capes but seems to work on just about anything. It is important to degrease prior to tanning and to neutralize according to the instructions. The skins had a stiffness when rinsed after removing from the Krowtan but softened right up after being neutralized and have a lot of stretch. I don't know about 'draining the fluids', but it must tighten up the hair roots in order to work.

Salting may be overated.

This ought to be good and stir up a couple of hard core, stick by the tanning books people. For years, I salted every cape that came through the shop. A fellow member of my association told me he quit salting and was having less problems with his in-shop tanning. So, being open minded, I tried it. My tanning problems have been null and void since. Even my acid/liqua tan capes were 10 times better. It has been about 10 years since I pre-salted an in-shop cape and I have had "zero" problems. I know there are several taxidermists on here that are very successful salting, but its elimination seemed to help my in-shop tanning problems. For about the last year, I have been experimenting with Krowtan. I must say, I am pretty impressed. I have had absolutely "zero" problems with this product. Do not get me wrong, if I send a cape to a tannery, I will dry salt it completely. I personally, don't care for commercially tanned skins. Remember, opinions are like "_________", so take it as you may.

Ive just dump my hides straight into the pickle. Salt is for preserving the hide in my book. No one on here has ever givin me a descent explanation on why we salt...Just salt they say etc etc etc.
