wall ped. antelope Mount ?

Submitted by Droptine on 01/31/2004. ( ) 66.163.141.3

I am preping a form today to mount tomorrow, its a wall pedistal mount of a pronghorn. I am wondering what to do w/ the cape on the back side of the showing shoulder, its hollowed out on the inside moving back towards the backing. Do I pull the hide all the way to the plywood backing or is there some special trick to this.

Thank you

It's not too tough...

Droptine (if that IS your real name),
Get your hair patterns lined up correctly around the brisket and shoulders. Then, using a new (ie SHARP) scalpel, carefully cut the skin around the edge of the cut out. Cut it from the skin side so you don't cut hair off. I always do this last so any "taxiing" of the skin is finished. In other word, the skin is NOT going to cover the cut out part of the form.
Next, use Zap-a-Gap or super glue to permantly attach the skin to the form around the edge. The part of the hide that normally would wrap around the back of a regular shoulder mount form will also be wrapped behind on a wall pedestal. When dry, you can finish the concave part of the form with leather, felt, or whatever you choose. I usually use 3M adhesive with buckskin bordered with decorative cord and it finishes it off nicely.
I think there is a wall pedestal pronghorn on my website, but it may not be clear enough for your purpose (my website photos suck for the most part). http://meadtaxidermy.tripod.com
Hope that helps.

Thanks alot Bob I really appreciate your advice. I had planned to do some research on it a little more in advance but I forgot about it until my forms came yesterday, I thaught this would be a little change of pace from shoulder mount whitetails anyway thanks alot
