Tear around the whole nose while drying

Submitted by Rob on 02/10/2004. ( )

I have a problem that I noticed during my drying process after tanning. I stretch the deer out and staple the deer.. When I was attaching the deer to the drying board I must have stapled the hide a little to tight and when it dried the area around the whole nose tore. There is not much skin holding on. I was wandering if any of you have ever had this problem and what is the best way to fix it.. Thanks.

Why did you staple it to a board? Next when you soak the hide sew the thing up. Sandard Operating Proccedure.

I had a cape come back from the tannery last year that had about a 2 1/2" rip across the nose like that. When I rehydrated it I cut the edges so they would but up really nice then I used a fabric softener dryer sheet cut out a pice that covered the rip and a little extra then super glued through the dryer sheet. This worked great for me Or maybe I just got lucky, the zapagap will leave a firm spot in the cape but I worked it down and pinned it good while drying good luck!
