Finish ? for velvet buck

Submitted by Rick on 02/16/2004. ( ) 66.97.229.54

I'm finishing a velvet buck for a customer. Had the velvet horns freeze dried..........just wondering if anyone has any ideas on finishing for a nice look. It seems that the velvet does not look as nice as it did before freeze drying, like it needs to be combed or brushed but I tried that and it does no good.

Is there something I could use to dampen the velvet (besides water) and brush it? Or what would be a good procedure? Or is it just better to leave it alone?

Thanks

I actually finished one this way today Rick. I use a brush 1/2" wide by 1 1/2" long poly bristles, I cut bristles 3/16"-1/4" long so their pretty stiff comb the velvet opposite to the direction that it is laying, do the whole rack this way. Then I soakem pretty good w/ hair sheen from a squirt bottle, then brush it in going opposite the direction the velvet wants to lay again. Leave over nite brush again in the morning this gets all that velvet fluffed up again.
Best Ive found
Good luck!
