Just wondering I used the sallie Dahmes tape on how to mount a whitetail deer,in this tape it says put hide paste everywhere except down the back where the y will be sewed. what keeps it from lefting later? or will it? I`am sure that when you slide the cape on your getting some their any way. And one more thing the wax I was going to use for the nose, eye & duct area was about useless it was to hard and would not soften, maybe I just got a bad batch. But any way I think clay will work just as well. Any opions? (just learning)

As for the was try heating it with a hair dryer a little.
The hide should not lift where you sew it if you have the right form.
Bojack
Try heating the WAX .
Thanks Bojack, I had it under a heat lamp did`t help. will a small amount of clay and a little paint work as well. I just think it set in my shop which has no heat and maybe froze or something.
Use Epoxie Sculpt if your using it for tear ducts, or to fill in areas.
Don't use clay for a finishing agent. It will crack off and fall to pieces. If you like wax, use that. Otherwise, I use Apoxie Sculpt on all mine.
Les
Lee,
I sew my short incision to about a half inch from the end. Then I insert a small amount of caulk, about 1 or 2 squeezes of the caulking gun. Complete your sewing and gently smooth the caulk that is under the hide evenly. As with everything, watch it for a couple of days and make sure it is nice and smooth. It levels out the seam. I would go with the Apoxie clay/sculpt for finishing. Sorry for the long answer.
Thanks for the help, I will try that, I learn something new on this forum everyday. Will be mounting my 2 this weekend.
I watched the same tape and learned a lot. I ordered the same wax and never could get it to work very well though. You'd love epoxie sculpt. It works a whole lot easier and dries rock hard.
I like to put a little hide paste under my stiches as I sew things up. A caulking gun works good too or just try to raise the cape up slightly and put a little paste in there with a butter knife or some other tool.
I put a resivior or Buckeye Supreme in front of the antlers and also on the side of the neck right behind the ears. After I'm done sewing, I work the glue resiviors twards the seam and smooth it all out. It never moves.
