Does the nictating membrane move depending on which way the deer is lookingor have its body posture or is it always generally in the same spot.

Nictating membranes can move. I belive it was the last Breakthrough that had a referance picture of a whitetail "blinking" it's nictating membrane. It covered it's entire eye. just make sure you use your references and you can't go wrong.

a few issues back Breakthrough had two side by side photos with a deer rotating its eyes, and the membrane stayed put. Reference is the best way.

the membrane moves freely

Guys, study anatomy and refernce both. The nictitating membrane is part of the eyelid. Its a wiper for the front of the eyelid. It moves and follows the eye surface. Stick your finger into a deers ear and that membrane will shoot right out across the eye surface, Ive been showing that to students for years! Deer have a ton of crud in those ears, in case anyones keeping score at home...
