Hello forum, I need some help/info on how to remove the antlers from a deer head. My 10yr old son found a deer carcus in the woods and decided to bring the head back with him. He now wants to mount the antlers for his room. As you can tell we have never done this before so any info or resources would be kindly appreciated. The head has been out in the woods for a time and has some hair left on it.

The above link will show you how to cut the antlers, pretty close anyway. If you go to their home page there will be antler manikins you can order and also panels if you wish. The main thing to remember is not to tip the antlers downward. Have the points as straight up as you can. You can go to the orange search button to the left where I'm sure you will find more. Good luck!
I know here in Utah, you would be looking at a citation for removing any deer that still has the antlers attached to the skull. Sheds are fine to pick up, but nothing attached to the skull. Just putting out some rather important info, as you just publically admitted to removing a set. Anyway, go down to a hardware store and see if they have a antler mounting kit. If they do it tells you how to cut the antlers off to fit in the shield and attach to the plaque.
