Ok I have searched and found nothing on this. When coloring reproduction or sheds, what are some colors or processes anybody has tried to get that grey desert color on a mule deer antler.I use potassium panag. (not going to try and spell that one lol) to get the brown look I want, but have not got a good one for the grey look. Thanks for any help on this.

By far the easiest way to colour antlers is simply to paint them. You can do SO much more with paint than you can with potassium permanangate or stains. Prime - paint your base colour and apply various washes and tints. Look at the top flat artists - they all paint awesome looking antlers with paint.. the only difference is - your canvas is a repro antler.. so ya don't have to draw the antler first - you just have to colour it in - LOL!

Its in the archives, dig deeper.

Antler staining, try several different versions of the words, the info is there.

Burnt Umber Oil Paint

Lately I've been using burnt umber oil paint. Take a dry rag and wipe off the excess and it will lighten the areas that need to be lightened. It leaves a very realistic looking antler. I'm no expert, but this is what I do....
