Scent gland color

I have mounted WT for 2 years now. The Sallie Dahlmes tape I have that I learned from says to use Ivory wax in the scent glands in front of the eyes. I have seen several WT that other taxidermist have mounted and they use a burnt umber color. Which is the correct color to use? I know that when I have killed deer and on my customers deer that I cape out, the glands are white with a yellow like ear wax... Thx Eddie

Look at your reference photos, they will tell you the proper coler to use. Most of my photos show a live deer with some shade of pink or flesh color. You want the mount to look alive. Dont go by what others do or by what a dead deer looks like. Big differnce between a live and dead. Go to a petting zoo, first off its fun, second bring a camara and learn something from the aniamls. No better reference than the aniamal itself.
Hope I helped
