Illinois deer hunting

Submitted by Don on 04/18/2004 at 13:58. ( ) 141.151.229.92

I'm interested in finding a place to hunt in Illinois, preferably gun season, where I would pay trespass fee (unguided hunting fee) or have hunting priveleges in exchange for taxidermy work. I am a licensed taxidermist in PA so it is tough to make any contacts. If anybody has any suggestions or experience with this let me know.

We have an area here called Jim Edgar Panther Creek. I would suggest putting in a gun permit in for there. This place is around 15000 acres of prime deer and turkey hunting and all public ground. Each year many B&C are taken. You might also try a search on the Grigsby. This if I spelled it right is a pay hunt but it buts up to JEPC. Look at some of there deer to see the quality. Any more info just E-mail me. Tony

No JEPC Nonresident Firearm Tags

I hunt JEPC during archery season, but have only been able to draw in one year as a RESIDENT firearm hunter. All of the available firearm permits for JEPC are issued during the resident lottery each year, leaving none for the NON-RESIDENT lottery. The best bet for a non-resident firearm tag for hunting public land is one of the Shawnee National Forest counties (Jackson, Gallatin, Pope, Hardin, Jackson). And there are not "many B&C" deer killed each year on JEPC anyway. Occasionally a B&C is taken, but not every year. Several P&Y deer in the 125-155 range are taken each year, however. I have been fortunate enough to take 2 of them myself there over the years with bow.
