and if using bondo remember to place wadded up paper at the butt... with no edges...and try and leave a hole i nthe inside to put your wire thru when drying... remember no sharp edges... these show on the finished mount... you can build up the butt with clay good luck this is the best way and econmical good luck
What's the best way? Are ear liners easier?
I used both methods. Now I only use ear liners. It is a better quality job. It isn't much more work and the ear butts are built in. You need to get the cartlige out all the way or you might as well just use bondo. If you are going to stick with Bondo just make sure you fleshed the ear to the edje of the cartlige and then some. If not the ear will look ragged when it dries.
God Bless
Rick Carter and Brad Eppley both make great earliners that already have the inner ear detail in them. Both available through WASCO. Good Luck! Jeff F.
and now just use bondo - card ears as they dry and you will be pleased - cheaper and easier than liners and they always fit
Thank you all for the information. Do u use the ear liner like you would if you were using bondo? flesh inside of ear and inser tthe ear liner? what kind of glu would i use to set the ears?
can i just use regular auto bondo?
Fiberglass or tigerhair will be a better than just plain bond. Good luck.
When using the above mentioned earliners, seperate back of ear skin from cartilage, invert, and remove cartilage. Test fit the liner for a good fit and then use a good adhesive such as Epo-Grip. If going the bondo method you should add some fiberglass "chop" or just buy some bondo-glass from walmart. There's another method that can be found at www.TaxidermyReference.com too. Try the different methods and see what you're most comfortable with! Good Luck! Jeff F.
Earliners definitely do the job.
