Can you dye a faded spot on a whitetail mount?

One of my whitetail capes came back from the tannery with a bad faded spot on the side of the neck. I went ahead and mounted it but it is very obvious. Is there any way to dye or color the hair back? Also, any input on what could have caused this? The spot is large, about 6 by 8 inches. Thanks for your help.

is the hair in the spot the same length as the hair that appears to be unaffected around it? if it is shorter, it could be an old injury that the new hair is growing into. it wouldnt be the first time a taxidermist missed something like that when the customer brought it in. my most common miss, is the ones that have little manes on the back of their neck. often times the deer is skinned down to the back of the head and i dont notice it until it goes on the form.

hunters miss a lot of these things too since they are so preoccupied with the rack. it pays to look things over just to be sure they are aware of everything before they leave the shop.

if that isnt the cause of your problem.....nothing comes to mind at the moment.

maybe someone here will have a better idea
