which is better for a beginner? Single or double action.

Would I be better off with a single action or double action airbrush? I am just starting to need an airbrush, and I have heard a double action is hard to get use to. Would the "H" Paasche be best? Thanks, Eric

Any airbrush...

Any airbrush can be seen as hard to get used to.. it's a very unique tool. I'd say go with the double action. It is more versatile for most people - though some skilled individuals are masters at single action or even bristle brushes and can do things that a lot of double action airbrush artists drool over. Practice is the key. Go with the double and practice like crazy and you'll do fine. Just be sure to do lots of practice exercises so you can learn the basic techniques. There are lots of palces on the net to learn the basics. There are also many books and videos devoted to beginning airbrushing. In the book "museum quality fish taxidermy' there are even exercises in there...

Eric, you're scared of the archives, aren't you

This is the second or third question you've asked that has been answered hundreds of times before and they're all as close as a click on the SEARCH icon. Why do you think Ken put it there?

Being a beginner is irrelevant.

Some folks like single and some like double. Double action is to complicated for my simple mind.

I agree Bill...

Before taxidermy I tried using a double in pursuit of my Art major. I gave up and for the most part stuck with Drawing and Painting (with a brush-brush).

Since getting into taxidermy about 7 years ago, I tried a single action Paasche. And love it.

But I firmly believe that IF I would have stuck with the double, I eventually would have gotten the hang of it.

Whatever you choose, stick with what you've started with. You will eventually master it through practice and by making mistakes...

Double action

I like the double action the best. I like the way you can adjust the flow of paint for doing fine lines with the paache. It has that little roler thingy there to adjust it with LMAO. Jack F.
